Teddy and Dolly Church is a new idea that encourages children and their parents/carers to go deeper into a Bible story and then express what the Holy Spirit is doing, within their hearts and minds, using different creative media.
Are you considering starting a new toddler group, or want to revitalise your ongoing children's service? Teddy and Dolly Church may be the answer for you.
Teddy and Dolly Church is church for children and adults. It is designed around the Bible stories told in the series of books: ‘Bible Adventures with Teddy and Dolly’ written and illustrated by Reverend Liz England, who is the vicar of three beautiful churches in the Peak District.
This training morning, which includes lunch, will be a chance to be introduced to Teddy and Dolly Church and to be trained in running a session. Rev Liz England will share how this has turned out to be a successful initiative, that Liz's churches in Peak Parishes have embraced over the last 6 months. Teddy and Dolly Church in Peak Parishes has attracted many children, parents and carers who try church, often for the first time.
Teddy and Dolly Church encourages each person to ‘engage with the Bible story and explore with their imagination’ which is at the heart of its approach. It draws strongly on aspects of Ignatian spirituality.
Ignatian spirituality, taking one of its key aspects - the Spiritual Exercises, a set of meditations and prayers that guide individuals to reflect on their relationship with God and deepen their faith. This approach encourages people to be attentive to their inner feelings, whilst listening to Bible stories and becoming aware of God’s presence. Teddy and Dolly Church aims to encourage this approach using three shapes to help use this process when listening to a Bible story – a star, a heart and a circle.
Teddy and Dolly Church encourages individuals to express what they are feeling and thinking into creativity through the activities provided.
Teddy and Dolly Church encourages spiritual growth through prayer, reflection, and action.
Teddy and dolly church takes around 15 minutes to set up and is designed to work even in a small, traditional church building with pews, so don't feel your building is too old or too small.
