Building Faith, Brick by Brick: Families Bring Bible Stories to Life

Families gathered for a Brick Church Day at Norbury Church, Hazel Grove (15 November), part of the Chester Diocese Growing Faith Learning Hub, and discovered new ways to explore Scripture together at home.
Instead of simply reading parables, families played, built, and imagined their way through some of Jesus’ most loved stories with the help of Steve Guinness, the Brick Consultant (Channel 4 LEGO® Masters).
The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1–23) – turned into a board game
The Lost Sheep (Luke 15:3–7) – built through a beetle-drive style challenge
The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24–27) – testing houses on sand and rock
The Lost Son (Luke 15:11–31) – explored through a themed game
After diving into these stories, the creativity didn’t stop. Children designed intricate mazes while adults crafted tiny sheep to hide inside. Then came the highlight: releasing “balls of God’s amazing love” to seek out the lost sheep, a playful reminder of God’s relentless care.
Lunch was shared, laughter echoed, and the building continued. Families recreated their favourite Bible stories as brick-based games, and children proudly led others in playing the games they had designed. It was a beautiful picture of faith being explored together—across generations, with imagination and joy.
Brick Church is part of the Growing Faith Learning Hub, helping families engage with Scripture in ways that go beyond Sunday mornings. Soon, brick-based resources will be available for parishes, so families can continue building faith at home—one brick at a time.
