Building faith with Neurodivergent Families
Brick by Brick is a new worshipping community group being built at St Andrew's Grange in Runcorn.

The church uses LEGO® for the foundations of a style of church with neurodivergent families in mind.
Vicar, Emma Speake explains: “Two years ago, a few autistic individuals joined the church's congregation, and conversations quickly began around the challenges that many neurodivergent people—especially children—face when trying to engage with traditional church settings.”
Today Brick by Brick has become a close-knit worship space for around 20 adults and children. The group includes about 10 to 11 children, but the team is mindful not to grow too quickly as some of the children would find a larger group overwhelming.
"Keeping numbers small is part of how we support everyone’s needs. It's about creating a space where people feel they belong." says Emma.
Each week, the community gathers to build, share stories, learn about Jesus, and support one another. The environment is designed to be calm, accepting, and judgment-free.
“There aren't many groups we can attend with our little boy,” one parent said. “He creates his own kind of chaos. But here, the other parents get it. Their children have similar challenges. We can relax, exchange notes, and help each other without fear of judgment.”
At its heart, Brick by Brick is more than just a church group. It’s a support network, a learning space, and a celebration of inclusion and creativity—brick by brick.
Emma says: “As the community continues to grow in spirit and strength, it stands as a joyful reminder that sometimes, building faith looks a little different—and that’s a beautiful thing.”
