Speak Out, Stay Safe goes digital

Speak Out, Stay Safe goes digital

Safeguarding made simple for social media

A new series of digital messages has been launched to accompany printed literature and resources, as part of Speak Out, Stay Safe in Chester Diocese.

Each week, a short, animated message will be released for parishes to share on social media and display on church screens, presenting the Church of England’s five safeguarding principles.

Director of Communications, Harriet Roberts explains: “We’ve extracted the information from the five posters with the safeguarding standards themes, and broken each theme down further into four bite-sized, easy-to-understand segments linked to each of the four icons.

She said: “We’re using accessible language to try to make safeguarding relevant and positive, because we all need to be involved and understand how we can make a difference. The digital messages explain what each of those standards mean in real terms and how it feels and looks like for people in our churches when safeguarding is done well.”

During July, the first four weekly posts will follow the safeguarding standard, ‘Culture, Leadership and Capacity’. The launch film thinks about what it means in our Diocese when we foster and promote a safe and healthy culture.

The digital resources will be released, one film at a time, starting on week commencing 7 July. They will be shared on the Diocesan You Tube Channel, Facebook, Instagram and via the weekly ebulletin.

A list of useful Bible verses to accompany each theme is also available, along with the Diocesan Safeguarding Prayer for use in training, reflections and discussion groups.

Safeguarding Prayer for Chester Diocese

God of truth,

give us the courage to speak out

so that people are protected

from the risk of being harmed in any way.

Together may we build a Church

that affirms the value of every single person

and provides a safe welcome for all.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.
