Autumn Gardening Tips

Bulb and wildflower seed planting in churchyards or gardens
As the seasons begin to change and we say goodbye the last days of summer and welcome the colourful leaves of autumn it’s a great time to work on your own or in your church garden or churchyard.
Now is a good time to divide your perennial plants especially if they are taking over a little. Why not share with others in parish or have a plant swap? If your plants are pollinator friendly you can gain points on the Eco Church survey

If you are raking up leaves why not leave a pile to decompose into leaf mulch which is beneficial to the soil. Leaf piles left in situ especially in a sheltered spot in the grounds can also provide overwintering places for hedgehogs and other small mammals. If you are tidying up bushes and trees and have cut off dead branches please some in a log pile for insects to thrive on.
