“If God Can Use Me, He Can Use You”: Wendy’s Journey of Faith and Inclusion

Wendy Moss is a licensed lay minister at Holy Trinity Hurdsfield and will shortly be retiring from work to take on the part-time role of Hospital Chaplain at Macclesfield Hospital.
“Life was good … busy, but good,” Wendy recalls of her years as a nurse, mum, and worship leader. Then illness struck. “At first, I couldn’t get out of bed… weeks became months, and for two years I was housebound.”
Accepting a wheelchair was hard. “I hated the thing: hated how people reacted.” Even harder was finding a church she could access. Eventually, Holy Trinity Hurdsfield welcomed her in. “Worshipping God with others again was so very special. I couldn’t stand. Couldn’t sing. But I could pray.”
One moment at a New Wine event changed everything: “A lady came through the crowd and said, ‘I want you to pray for me … because you’re in that.’ Wow. The healing in those words was more precious than I can describe. I realised God could still use me, not in spite of my disability, but because of it.”
Years later, after treatment restored much of her health, Wendy felt God nudging her forward. “I had a very cross conversation with God asking if He ever wanted me to work ‘up front’ again.” She didn’t expect an answer. But in 2017, she found herself on the main stage at Greenbelt Festival. “I remember thinking, ‘How did this happen?’ And I could almost hear a chuckle…”
Today, Wendy is a Licensed Lay Minister at Holy Trinity Hurdsfield. “It’s been a journey with more than a few potholes but I believe I’m now on the path where God wants me to be.”
Her message is simple: “I offered what I had for God to use. And He did. And He does. If God can use me, God can use you!”
