Celebrating Chaplaincy

Bishop Mark has thanked all those who work as licensed, employed or lead chaplains across the diocese, as well as praying for them and for all people involved in the many and varied types of chaplaincy.
Before the special Evensong at Chester Cathedral (Sunday 28 June), Bishop Mark presented a number of chaplains with new licences, with authorisation to exercise ministry across the diocese as well as in the specific institution where they minister as chaplain.
Â
Bishop Mark said "It is a real joy to be able to celebrate the ministry of those who work and serve the Church and Christ in this way. The unique way Chaplains serve, embedded within communities whether a school, hospital, prison, or hospice, brings its own challenges, but is also a real privilege. Chaplaincy is a vital expression of our call and vocation as the church, and chaplains in the Diocese of Chester complement the ministry of our parishes and church schools. I am pleased to be able to invite chaplains from across the Diocese to meet with one another, and express my thanks for the ministry they offer."
Â
Bishop Mark also licensed Rev Dr Gill Reeve, senior chaplain at the University of Chester, to a new role in the diocesan Ministry team, as Bishop’s Adviser for Chaplains and Sector Ministers. Gill will be working to coordinate support for chaplains across the diocese, and we will hear more from her about her new role in next week’s ebulletin.
