Do you know a Safeguarding Hero in your parish?

As part of this year’s Annual Safeguarding Service at Chester Cathedral, the Diocese is inviting parishes to nominate volunteers whose dedication to safeguarding deserves recognition.
These are the people whose quiet, steadfast work helps create safe spaces, supports those who have experienced harm, and strengthens the culture of care within our churches. We would love to celebrate them.
The Annual Safeguarding Service on Tuesday 23 June will bring together clergy, staff, volunteers, and members of the wider community to give thanks for the work of safeguarding, to pray for victims and survivors of abuse, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to safety for all. The Bishop of Chester, Mark Tanner will preach at the service.
A central part of the evening will be a celebration of safeguarding volunteers from across the Diocese, including those nominated by their parishes. Their often unseen but deeply impactful service plays a vital role in protecting the vulnerable and supporting those who have experienced harm.
Before the service, at 6pm, Parish Safeguarding Officers are invited to a workshop focused on domestic abuse awareness. It will offer practical insight, guidance, and space for discussion - supporting PSOs in responding confidently and compassionately to one of the most challenging safeguarding issues facing communities today.
Attendees will receive a resource pack including:
Domestic abuse awareness posters for church noticeboards
A parish handbook with guidelines for responding well to domestic abuse
Refreshments will be available, offering time for conversation, connection, and mutual support.
