Standing Firm in Power and Pride

Standing Firm in Power and Pride

Racial Justice Officer, Nadene Wright has created this music video for this year's Black History Month. She explains what it means to her and how churches might use it to reflect on this year's theme.

" I created the song in a more American style because ultimately Black History cannot be confined by borders. It is deeply interconnected across the Atlantic through the shared experiences of the African diaspora. The struggles of the US, although not a carbon copy, can be mirrored within the UK. The RnB genre amongst Jazz, spiritual, blues and gospel have been really influential globally and have inspired faith, justice and culture far beyond the US.

"The style of song honours the rich musical heritage of Black people and figures such as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are internationally recognised symbols of the fight for racial justice. The aforementioned figures can be used as a gateway to reflect on our Black History in the UK such as The Windrush generation, and the Race Relations act."

Here are some reflections and questions which might be used in church group work.
