Social Media Workshop - basic skills
This basic workshop introduces parish staff and volunteers to the fundamentals of social media and how it can support parish life.

It provides an overview of popular platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, explains key social media terminology, and demonstrates how to create simple posts that inform, engage and connect with parishioners and the wider community.
As communication increasingly takes place online, social media is an important tool for the future growth and sustainability of the Church. It offers opportunities to reach younger generations, share the life of the parish beyond Sunday services, connect with the wider community, and encourage new people to engage with and join the congregation. No previous experience is required, making this an ideal starting point for anyone new to social media.
The workshop will be led by Karen Elsey, Communications Officer at St Michael and All Angels Church in Bramhall, who has a background in graphic design, marketing and advertising. Having worked in communications for a number of years, Karen is passionate about helping churches make the most of social media to connect with their communities and share their story.
More recently, Karen has joined the Diocese of Chester on a freelance basis to support the communications team with their social media channels. Bringing both professional experience and an understanding of parish life, the session will offer practical advice, simple tips and plenty of encouragement for anyone just getting started with social media.
