Annual Diocesan Safeguarding Service at Chester Cathedral

Hundreds attended the Annual Diocesan Safeguarding Service
The annual Safeguarding Service at Chester Cathedral took place on 10 June offering a time of prayer and reflection for victims and survivors. This was also an opportunity to celebrate the work of Parish Safeguarding Officers (PSOs) and to commit ourselves to the new safeguarding awareness campaign, Speak Out, Stay Safe.
PSOs play a vital role in fostering a strong safeguarding culture across our parishes. We are deeply grateful to all those who step forward to take on this important responsibility.
As the key link between the Diocese and individual parishes on safeguarding matters, PSOs oversee all church activities involving children, young people, and vulnerable adults, ensuring that safeguarding policies are effectively implemented.
The new Speak Out, Stay Safe campaign reflects Chester Diocese’s and Chester Cathedral’s shared commitment to the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Standards. It promotes an ethos of care, service, and wellbeing, encouraging open, positive conversations about shared responsibility in keeping each other safe.
The campaign is designed to be bright, eye-catching, and easily recognisable—especially by children and young people throughout the Diocese—supporting our mission to build a safer, healthier church community.
