Bishop Mark's message and prayer for the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Sarah Mullally

Bishop Mark's message and prayer for the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Sarah Mullally

The Bishop of Chester has expressed his congratulations to Dame Sarah Mullally on her appointment as Archbishop, and has assured her of the prayers and support of the Diocese of Chester.

She will serve the Province of Canterbury, nation, and Communion in witness and mission continuing the faithful work she has done as Bishop of London.

Bishop Sarah’s appointment comes at a crucial time in the life of the nation, communion, and national church. Bishop Mark said “I am delighted to hear of Bishop Sarah’s appointment to this role and assure her of my prayers and support as she seeks to share the hope of Christ around our nation. I am sure all of us in the Diocese and across the Northern Province commit ourselves to ongoing prayers and send our congratulations on the appointment. Personally, I look forward to working with her in this new role in the National Church and across the Communion she now serves in a fresh way.”

The Archbishop designate will take up her new role over the next few months in a series of public events.

Bishop Mark also offered a prayer for the new Archbishop.

Eternal and loving Christ,

You came not to be served but to serve, and to give your life for those who seek.

We thank you for your servant Sarah as she is called to serve in this role. Rest upon her with gentle grace, persistent mercy, and eternal wisdom.

Bless and empower your church, this nation, and, we pray, the Anglican Communion.

Amen
