'Bra’vo! – a recycling project for Creationtide

Staff at the Diocesan administrative headquarters at Church House have been collecting bras for The Your Smalls Appeal.

The charity collects new and recycled bras, knickers and disposable and sustainable sanitary towels to empower women in developing countries and for projects addressing period poverty in the UK.

The Your Smalls Appeal charity started collecting bras for Africa in 2016 and has strong links to the Wullingkumma Nursery and Lower Basic School and Medical Centre. Since then, thousands of donations have given comfort and support to thousands of girls and women.

The charity also collects and distributes underwear, and sanitary towels to prevent absenteeism from school.

Jill Elston, Diocesan Environment Adviser said: “We have had a tremendous response to the collection with nearly 200 items including lots of brand new and unworn items which people have purchased to donate. Every year millions of bras end up in landfill. During this Creationtide Season, as an Eco Diocese we would love to encourage churches to consider a collection to support The Your Smalls Appeal or other charitable bra bank projects.”

If you would like to support the bras collection at Church House, please drop off your donated items before 30 September.
