Food for thought during Creationtide

Food for thought during Creationtide

During Creation Season, we’re invited to reflect on how our daily choices—especially around food—affect the environment and contribute to climate change.

As Christians, we’re called to be mindful stewards of creation. One way we can do this is by making thoughtful food choices that care for both people and the planet. A helpful guide is the acronym L.O.A.F., which encourages us to choose food that is:

  • Local – supporting nearby producers and reducing food miles

  • Organic – when possible, choosing foods grown without harmful chemicals

  • Animal-friendly – opting for high standards of animal welfare

  • Fairtrade – ensuring fairness and dignity for everyone involved in food production

Jess from Hallwood Ecumenical Parish shares a simple vegan stir fry recipe and reflects on how her faith inspires her to care for creation. For her, that means eating a plant-based diet and finding ways to reduce food waste as part of lowering her carbon footprint.

As we journey through Creation Season, could this be a time for you to explore how your food choices can align with your faith and care for the Earth? Maybe it’s a good moment to try using your L.O.A.F.!
