Jonah resources coming for Lent 2027

Jonah resources coming for Lent 2027

Bishop Mark has prepared a range of resources for the Diocese of Chester’s Lent 2027 journey through the Book of Jonah, exploring themes of God’s call and faithfulness.

The resources include daily Bible reading notes for individuals, weekly small-group study materials and sermon notes for churches wishing to follow the series during Sunday services. Daily content will also be available electronically or as a podcast.

Bishop Mark writes: "The book of Jonah is utterly amazing: pulsing with the very heartbeat of God for us today! Early each morning, I have found myself writing just to ponder and pray. And, as I have written, a hope has grown that we might reflect together in the light of His heart-calls to us in our day."

Jenny Bridgman: "One of the joys of spending time with Jonah was the playfulness of his story, which I hope will come to life for you as much as it has for me through shared prayer and reflection."

Peter Froggatt: "I have greatly enjoyed reading and reflecting on Bishop Mark's studies on Jonah. Jonah is a book that I have loved preaching on: it is rich and colourful, funny, surprising and affecting, and it speaks so acutely to the settled religious mind and heart. This exploration has shown me these things all over again, with warmth and faith and, for me, many new insights."

Jon Pocock: "It’s just been fun to see this come together, and to see Bishop Mark fizzing with joy as he uses his obvious gifting for bringing scripture to life and extracting immediate application for our lives. As I read it, I felt like I was having an energising 1-on-1 chat with him. I hope you get the same sense of excitement that I did"

Rachel Hsuan: "Reading the book of Jonah, and being accompanied by these notes, we are surprised again and again by God choosing to love and forgive and challenge and change us. I’m so grateful to Jonah and what he shows us about messy faith, and a God who is bigger than even our best efforts (and kind and gentle with our worst!). What does it mean to live in wide-eyed wonder of what God is doing around us, despite our less-than-average attempts at obedience?"
