Deaneries: Revitalised for Mission

From 21 August to 28 September, parishes and individuals across the Diocese of Chester will be invited to take part in a consultation on proposals to revitalise the deanery system.

The proposals have been developed over the past 18 months by Bishop Mark and the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with Rural Deans and Lay Chairs.

They are rooted in a desire to better support the Diocese's shared vision of growing disciples and delivering its three strategic priorities: New Christian Communities, New Collaborative Partnerships, and New Leadership Development.

The proposals are based on the conviction that the Church is at its strongest when mission and ministry are shaped locally, building on what God is already doing in our communities. They seek to give deaneries a clearer missional purpose, strengthen collaboration between churches, and provide additional leadership, support and resources to help local mission flourish.

The consultation will invite feedback on a revised deanery leadership model, proposed deanery groupings, additional support for deaneries, and arrangements to help transition to the new model.

Everyone is encouraged to engage with the consultation. Alongside personal responses, PCCs and deaneries will also be invited to submit formal feedback, helping to shape the future of these proposals.

We recognise that change can bring both questions and opportunities.

This consultation is an important chance to listen carefully to one another, learn from local experience and ensure the proposals are fit for purpose as we continue to be Together in Christ, Sharing Hope.
