Foundations for Ministry Launched with Bishop Mark

Bishop Mark met with those with a sense of calling from across the Diocese, to support them in taking their next steps in exploring and developing their vocation and discipleship.
There was a real sense of energy and encouragement at Church House on Saturday 26th September when those beginning training for Ordained and Reader ministry joined this term’s Foundations for Ministry cohort for an afternoon of worship, conversation and learning.
Bishop Mark spoke about the culture, vision and strategy of the Diocese of Chester, and the part we all play, with the whole people of God, in God’s ministry and mission.
Â
The afternoon also marked the beginning of the newly reshaped Foundations for Ministry programme. Foundations for Ministry is for anyone who wants to become better equipped to serve God in the world and the church, whether at work, at home and in the community, through roles in the local church, or through licensed lay or ordained ministry.
Â
Over the coming months, the group will explore discipleship, healthy spirituality, safer and healthier church culture, vocation, and how we grow and sustain ministry together.
Â
It was a very encouraging start, with lots of energy, questions and enthusiasm, and a real sense of people excited to learn, grow and explore where God may be calling them to serve.
Â
Could God be calling you to something new? Our next Called to Serve event takes place on Saturday 7th November 2026, and is open to anyone who wants to explore the many different ways of serving God, from ordained and licensed lay ministry to youth and children’s work, and other forms of service. Find out more and book your free place on the Called to Serve booking page.
