WHO goes into which Area?

Three questions matter most to every parish:

  • Which Area will we be part of,

  • Who will we be with, and

  • Wow will we continue to be represented?

This section answers all three.

Parishes have been allocated to the new Areas using the same principles as we explained in WHERE, plus two extra ones:

  • Keeping existing multi-parish benefices and shared-clergy arrangements together, and

  • Matching parish groupings to our central understanding of local collaboration and shared missional context.

But you know your local relationships better than any spreadsheet can.

Telling us where these boundary choices don't reflect how you actually work together is one of the most valuable things you can do in this consultation.

To help you check, we've built three tools:

  • a searchable online table of all 262 parishes showing their current Deanery and proposed new Area which will direct you to a summary for each Deanery / Area combination showing exactly which parishes stay, join or leave, and

  • an interactive online map so you can see where your own parish sits.

Representation won't be lost in the change.

Your existing Deanery Synod representatives will continue to represent you, as part of a new Deanery Synod formed for your new Area - their role and voice will not change, only the shape of the group they sit within.

Diocesan Synod representation is also protected: the rules mean it's possible to generate identical representation under the new Areas as under the existing Deaneries, and any final proposals will go through Bishops' Council and Diocesan Synod for formal agreement.

Your views on how fair these proposals are matter to us.
